$10 Liberty Eagle

About the $10 Liberty Eagle

They $10 Liberty Head Eagle was minted from 1838 to 1907, and was the largest denomination coin authorized by the Mint Act of 1792. During this time there was an unfavorable ratio of silver to gold in Europe. Thus, gold coins were worth more silver in Europe than in the United States, so many Eagles were sent overseas. The Eagles that did remain in this country were hoarded. Like the $2½ Liberty Head and the $5 Liberty Head, this coin was also designed by Christian Gobrecht.
